This time our adventurous journey in the world of manga & anime, takes
us out from horror and dark settings (see our previous Hellsing and DevilMan
specials) to rich a land of ninjas and martial arts, humour and friendship!
We're talking about one of the most popular shonen manga (wich is liked
very much by girls too...) recently published, Naruto by Masashi
Kishimoto. The series, begun as a comic strip in the Shonen Jump Magazine
in 1999, soon becomes a Graphic Novel (that's a collected manga from Shonen
Jump in a long book) and is ongoing in Japan.
Luckily the manga has recently started to be released in U.S.A. and other
countries too, but the TV series, animated in 2002, at the moment is only
available in Japanese language subtitled by fans. On the 21st August a
theatrical rendition, with a completely original story, "It's the
Snow Princess Ninja Arts Book!" (original title Dai Katsugeki!
Yuki Hime Shinobu Houjou Datte Bayo!!), and a bonus short film "The
Great Sports Tournament in Konoha Village", has been finally released
and so Naruto - The movie soon entered on top.

Naruto -
The Story
The Hidden Leaf Village (Konoha Village) is not a normal village in the
forest. Almost all the people who live there have a common characteristic:
they are all very good ninja and among them there are some who are really
great, as the Hyuuga clan with its invincible Byakugan or the Uchihas
with their Sharingan or the Sennins, the legendary ninjas who always had
protected the village from its enemy... But 12 years ago the Konoha Village
had to face a too strong enemy: the deadly nine tails fox demon. Only
the sacrifice of the 4th Hokage, who was able to seal the demon inside
the body of a newborn baby, saved the village from destruction... Naruto
Uzumaki is a 12 years old orphan boy having a great dream and a terrible
secret. He attends the Konoha Ninja Academy and when he grows up he wants
to become the Hokage, the strongest and more important ninja of his village.
But Naruto, as it seems, doesn't have a great talent in the use of ninja
arts and in controlling the Chakra (the inner energy that allow a person
to perform the special ninja techniques), and then all the adults of the
village treats him very coldly. But Naruto does not let himself down,
and tries anyway to gain people's attention and most of the time he gets
into trouble, but is able to create a personal special ninja technique
(the little ridiculous Sexy no Jutsu) and to graduate from the Academy
becoming a Genin, the lowest rank of ninja. Under the lead of Kakashi
Sensei, together with two other kids, Sasuke, the last one of the Uchiha
clan, and Sakura, a very smart girl who Naruto loves, the young ninja
starts his training and little by little learns not only new techniques
but above all the true meaning of team work and friendship. During their
first A rank mission, Naruto shows for the first time his true potential
when, as he sees Sasuke seriously injured by Haku, his rage makes him
to release a very powerful amount of Chakra that allows him to compete
in speed and strength with his enemy. Since all the three kids demonstrate
to be quite good ninjas, Kakashi decides to allow them to take part to
the Chunin Exam in order to become higher level ninja. And it's during
the training for the final test that Naruto realizes the secret hidden
in his past. He is the baby the 4th Hokage chose to seal the fox demon
inside! With the help of Juraiya, one of the Three Legendary Ninjas and
a self-confessed pervert that the kid calls the "Ero-Sennin",
Naruto learns to control and use for his own advantage the incredible
power of the Nine Tails Fox, who allows him not only to defeat the arrogant
Neiji Hyuuga during the test, but above all to save Sakura and Sasuke
from the deadly technique of Gaara, a young ninja of the Sand Village,
who, just like Naruto, is the living seal of a demon. Now Naruto doesn't
need to get in trouble to get people attention. He's more mature now and
stronger, but the way to become Hokage is still long and full of dangers.
But Naruto, by Masashi Kishimoto, it's not only a story of figths, seals
and ninja techniques. A very important factor of this work is, with no
doubt, the humor, that breaks at the right moment the suspense created
by the author!
